What is Functional Nutrition?

Functional nutrition is a practical and holistic approach to diet. With functional nutrition counseling, you will receive nutrition tools and plans that make sense for your individual needs.

My nutrition practice is rooted in functional medicine, an approach to healthcare that allows for exploring and supporting underlying health imbalances to improve symptom presentation through food and lifestyle.  Your health symptoms can be the body's communication, so we must listen closely to facilitate balance through nutrition.

I take a non-restrictive approach to diet.  You won't find fad diets or rigid meal plans here, and it's not a one-stop shop for calorie and macro goals.  Instead, you can learn to let go of the stress revolving around food by incorporating principles of intuitive eating plus practical education that will help you make sense of your dietary needs.  Food is fun; let's keep it that way.

The Process

The Assessment

​The assessment process allows me to get to know you, your goals, and your needs so I can make personalized and supportive recommendations.  The full assessment bundle includes a series of intake forms and two sessions. 

  • The first session is a 90-minute session to gather information.  We will assess nutrition, movement, and lifestyle factors as well as look at all body systems and health symptoms to connect the dots for optimal and holistic health.  

  • In the second session (50-minute) we will discuss protocols and recommendations and create a plan you feel good about.

Ongoing Support

I'm a firm believer in the power of time and consistency.  I'm not like other nutritionists; I don't give you a huge nutrition plan, wish you luck and send you on your way.  Instead, I help you prioritize action plans, establish habits, and deal with the obstacles and challenges that come with lifestyle change.

Ongoing support includes:

  • Two 50-minute 1:1 sessions per month to assess the current plan, make any needed adjustments, progress through phases of health management, and answer all your questions. 

  • Weekly check in's and ongoing messaging support for questions, updates, and support in between sessions

  • Any relevant tools for tracking foods, habits, symptoms, etc.

*All sessions are held virtually, via HIPPA compliant video conferencing.
